A minor kick of the can further along the rocky road. The Eurozone needs a gift of about 3 trillion euros to set it free from debt. German debt is as high as anyones, the only difference being that they have a balance of payments surplus and can afford it. But German bond yields are climbing; and the amount they can contribute, 192 billion, is not enough. The other nations have pledged to lend, too, but they have to borrow to lend it.
