Surely all that is needed is to get the Irish to vote on those provisions which are deemed by great Irish legal minds to be 'constitutional'. If they say no then just give them opt-outs on those provisions. The Dail could then ratify the treaty with the 'constitutional' elements stripped out. Given that all the other member states will have ratified by then there is little danger that any of the awkward squad (the Czechs and the Poles) will try to cash in by seeking opt-outs of their which might then derail/delay the process i.e. the pandora's box scenario will have been avoided. End of story. Onwards with le grande project. Let's face it, the anti-treaty movement is losing. It just a question of when, not whether the Lisbon provisions come in.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
