Clearly anybody who has seen the operations of Jean-Claude Juncker know that he is a true federalist and determined to either adopt an implied or explicit approach to an ever closer union.

Do we want the President of the European Commission to have these opinions - No is the simple answer.

Invoking the Luxembourg Compromise may be a way forward but as I write this Blog I have the feeling that it will be a waste of time.

The President of the European Commission should have the full backing of all member states. He should have an open public hearing with the Council so that we can know what kind of policies he / she will follow. Not appointment behind closed doors.

The appointment sends a signal to ALL Commission officials on the direction of the way in which legislative proposals will emerge

Does David Cameron back off I hope not. I also hope that Lord Owen will continue to use his expertise to highlight a strategy that will be in the best national interest of the UK

Wilfred Aspinall
Former Member
European Economic and Social CommitteeWilfred Aspinallhttp://wilfredaspinall.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-44467980698520847312014-06-27T13:07:12.593+01:002014-06-27T13:07:12.593+01:00With any luck this should get us thrown out by tea...With any luck this should get us thrown out by tea time!
