But think of the value we could gain from the publicity!Rollohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18255460090580758354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-78594285979935926322013-06-04T11:26:03.321+01:002013-06-04T11:26:03.321+01:00In italy, I was one of the non-Italian lecturers ...In italy, I was one of the non-Italian lecturers illegally fired - in mass sackings at several universities - as Italy tried to circumvent judgments of the Court of Justice concerning discrimination based on nationality. Under the Italian system I was entitled to a refund on the last 6 months of contributions I had paid into the social security system - after that you get nothing. Fair enough since that applies to Italians too. However, these mass sackings were illegal - those who waited the 3 years to get through Italy's tortuous court system eventually got their jobs back. But here's the point - others went back to the UK and signed on the dole - a direct result of UK taxpayers paying for Italy not playing by the rules. Equal and fair treatment under EU single market rules cannot be separated from the question of welfare benefits. David PetrieDavid Petriehttp://www.allsi.orgnoreply@blogger.com
