Sarkozy is used to having zero-sum political fights where one side's gain is the other sides loss.

The break down of negotiations which lead to Cameron's veto didn't gain either side anything, is probably a factor in a coming downgrade of Frances debt, and is going to make introducing a Europe wide tax on financial transactions much more difficult. And getting the financial transaction tax is far more important than having a uniformly regulated financial market across Europe.

I'm pretty sure that although most people realized straightaway that Cameron negotiated poorly at the conference, in about six months time the press will be able to point back at Sarkozy's behaviour as equally non-productive.Danackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02601944007304070805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-60554565154475961932011-12-15T16:26:49.721+00:002011-12-15T16:26:49.721+00:00> a central bank who's thinking runs comple...> a central bank who's thinking runs completely contrary to the governments desires

who's --> whose
governments --> government'sAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-8994295800959683882011-12-15T12:58:35.417+00:002011-12-15T12:58:35.417+00:00How pathetic of Noyer to whine "It's not ...How pathetic of Noyer to whine "It's not fair, miss. Britain's naughtier than us." This man is a governor of the ECB and has just shown to the world the low calibre of most of the eurocrats. Whatever the state of Britain's finances - and thanks to Brown they are not good - it has not pretended to save the euro with absolutely no result.Sheonanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-29087914413332821862011-12-15T12:17:27.419+00:002011-12-15T12:17:27.419+00:00Sarkosy simply does not understand what he is doin...Sarkosy simply does not understand what he is doing, or what is happening. The trouble with the political class trying to rule Europe is that they have never actually done anything other than climb the greasy pole.
Of course, the UK has the same problem , with Cameron, Osborne, Hague, Clegg, Milipede and all the rest of them, school, university, politics, greasy pole and power. But at least Cameron is not pretending to rule Europe.Rollohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18255460090580758354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-78294654375449433972011-12-15T10:13:39.461+00:002011-12-15T10:13:39.461+00:00Another point France misses is that there is absol...Another point France misses is that there is absolutely no use starting a 'war' with the UK at the moment. They probably need the UK somewhere in this process, just today's event recap the IMF to mention something. This could have been solved with a lot less fall out.

If you are already on the wrong side of your current war (Euro-rescue) to start another front is simply stupid.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
