Still, pretty good value. In the UK alone, there are 2 million UK employees working for Local Authorities. In the European Parliament, a vote takes 30 seconds (using the latest technology of course). In the UK Parliament every vote takes 20 minutes as the MPs shuffle off into their chambers. Why not campaign for better practices closer to home?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-12143454996737925062013-02-02T22:12:34.448+00:002013-02-02T22:12:34.448+00:00I find this paints an unfair picture for external ...I find this paints an unfair picture for external staff. I have worked as a consultant civil engineer for the EU as technical assistant - I was not and did not consider myself as a EU civil servant - I had a defined contract of 18 months (whereas theirs is not limited), had more rights than them and was way better paid (their own salaries are not great compared to those of UK/Germans/France much better than in Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal). I have also worked in a similar way for projects financed by the UK government as a consultant civil engineer - no one tried to label me as a UK civil servant and I wasn't one. The civil servants of the EU are few compared to the work they do - and specialists are required to carry out /implement what the 27 member states (including the UK ) have voted to do. Who builds the motorways and bridges in the UK? Mainly private civil engineering firms - the work is financed by the tax payer but they are NOT civil servants. The same applies for lawyers, scientists, etc.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-79295670815526812752007-02-03T16:23:00.000+00:002007-02-03T16:23:00.000+00:00Thank God somebody in the western world has a job....Thank God somebody in the western world has a job.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36227136.post-86758440948164741272007-01-31T18:50:00.000+00:002007-01-31T18:50:00.000+00:00Most people in the public sector are in fact worki...Most people in the public sector are in fact working for the EU because the EU makes most of our law and it's civil servants wot implement that law. The private sector, by levying VAT and passing it on, works for the EU as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
