That detailed parliamentary scrutiny in action

"I went with the party leader Nick Clegg because he is an expert on Europe and I didn't want to read the 200 pages of the EU treaty myself."

- Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik, on the referendum debate in the Commons.

Any MP who makes such a facile comment as Lembit Opik has made about not reading such an important document as the Lisbon Treaty text does NOT deserve to be in Parliament! Even if being an MP was an unpaid honorary post, he should earn his privilege of being in Parliament by taking his work seriously enough to read important texts like the Lisbon Treaty.

Bearing in mind Lembit's high pay (10 times more than what I have to live on!), plus an even greater amount in very loosely audited expenses, then his hypocrisy should disqualify him from Parliament! Why are the Lib-Dems so unethical when their party's name claims so much! The Lib-Dems are a national disgrace!
